The African Film Academy (AFA), in partnership with The International Film School of Cuba (EICTV), will conduct a film workshop in Kigali titled ‘Visual Story Telling’ from the October 17-20 in Kigali.
According to a statement released by AFA, the four-day workshop facilitated by Rebecca Roos, a lecturer at EICTV, and Edward Lapang, a Nigerian animator, painter and motion graphics artist, will focus on visual story telling for both fiction and documentary films.
It will entail theoretical basics, practical exercises, pitching and the production of short films.
"The main objective is to train artists of a high aesthetic and technical level with an ethical concept, capacity for dreaming, critical vision of the world, deep concern and positive position against injustice and oppression,” reads part of the statement.
The workshop is part of the annual celebration of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) that will be held at the Kigali Convention Centre, on September 17.
The Rwanda Film Federation (RFA) has welcomed this development saying this will be an opportunity for its
members to learn and garner more experience in film making.
"We are very happy for this opportunity that has presented itself. Our members are going to acquire more knowledge of making different kinds of films and also get the experience that will help the film industry,” Jean Kwezi, the UFF President told The New Times.
Representatives from the film school will present certificates to the students that complete the workshop and will also take part in round table discussions sharing their knowledge in how to train filmmakers within an industry that lacks infrastructure or resources.
