The national volleyball league champions Gisagara volleyball club have completed the signing of left attacker Willcliff Dusengimana from rivals APR.

The development was confirmed to Sunday Sport yesterday by Dominique Ntawangundi, Gisagara volleyball club head coach.

The two-time reigning champions signed the former APR spiker on a two-year deal.

Prior to joining the military side last year, 20-year old Dusengimana played for Groupe Scolaire Butare secondary school in the second division championship.

"The youngster has signed a 2 year contract with us, which can be extended. He is a fast-rising kid with exceptional talent, his presence on the team will immediately yield results and we hope he will also grow to become one the best players in the country,” Ntawangundi said.

The former UNIK, another league giant, tactician also revealed that the team is in talks with star center Placide Madison and the national team skipper Christophe Mukunzi over possibilities to extend their stay with the club if they don’t land professional contracts abroad.

Dusengimana is captaining the U-21 national team that is going to represent the country at the upcoming African U21 Men’s Volleyball Championships come September 12-19 in Nigeria.

With the Gisagara district-sponsored side, the celebrated left-attacker will play his first CAVB Africa Club Championship later this year following the team’s disqualification from last year’s edition after they had failed to confirm their participation.

In the recently concluded 2017-18 season, Gisagara won a local treble of major titles for their first time – the league title, the Genocide Memorial Tournament and Care d’As, respectively.
