Philip Amoateng has stepped down as the Managing Director of Airtel Rwanda.  Amoateng has been replaced by Amit Chwla, who previously served as the firm’s Commercial Director.

Amoateng departs the firm following the successful acquisition of Tigo from Millicom Group and consequent merger which he oversaw.

"Having successfully facilitated the merger of Airtel and Tigo that has seen harmonization of products and services, people and the brand, Philip is moving on to other challenges, the telecom confirmed.

Chawla is a Mechanical Engineer with an MBA in marketing and has over 18 years of experience in different fields out of which 14 years are within the telecom sector.

Prior to the acquisition by Airtel Rwanda, he was the Tigo Rwanda Chief Business Officer where he doubled the company’s revenue in a span of 15 months. He has also served at Bharti Airtel in different roles for over nine years.

Amoateng’s exit from the firm follows a number of high profile departures from Airtel including Chantal Kagame, former Deputy Chief Executive, and Fabrice Ndatira, who was the former Chief Technology and information officer.
