Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe has joined Rwandans for the 30th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi starting on Sunday, April 7.
Motsepe’s attendance was referred to as a "time to remember the tragedy of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and reflect on the remarkable journey of the People of Rwanda in rebuilding their country and creating a legacy of unity and resilience.”
Motsepe joined a host of heads of state from different parts of the globe who travelled to Kigali for the commemoration ceremony.
Among senior officials who are in Kigali include Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Andry Rajoelina of Madagascar, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani and South Sudan President Salva Kiir, who is also the chairperson of the East African Community.
Others include former US president Bill Clinton, Tanzania President Samia Suluhu, President of the Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville), Denis Sassou N'guesso, South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Faustin-Archange Touadéra, President of the Central African Republic among many others.
April 7 marks the beginning of a week-long series of events to honour the memory of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, which claimed the lives of more than one million people in 100 days.
