Rwanda Vs Mauritius

The national under-20 women volleyball team take on Mauritius today as they begin their chase for the African Women’s U20 Championship glory in Nairobi, Kenya.

Following Saturday’s technical meeting, Rwanda has been drawn in Group B alongside Egypt, Uganda, Mauritius and DR Congo.

Group A is comprised of hosts Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria and Cameroon.

Speaking to Times Sport from Nairobi yesterday, the Rwandan side head coach Christophe Mudahinyuka said they had been placed in a ‘relatively fair’ group and his ladies were determined to put up a spirited performance.

"Besides the reigning champions Egypt, we got a fair draw. The first task is to win the opening match (against Mauritius), then from there we focus on one game at a time. Our target in Nairobi is to finish at least in the top three,” Mudahinyuka said.

After today’s clash against dark horses Mauritius, Rwanda will be up against giants Egypt on Tuesday, Uganda on Wednesday, before locking horns with DR Congo on Thursday.

This will be the first time that Rwanda takes part in an Under 20 Women volleyball continental championship.

The competition will also double as qualifiers for the 2019 FIVB World U20 Women’s Championship – whose host nation is yet to be determined.
