Who are you when nobody is watching?

Many kids have secrets of bad things they have done and no one knows about them.

I have a friend called Marty. Yesterday he told me one of his secrets He said that as he was coming from school last week, he accidentally broke someone’s house widow while playing football with his friend.

He told me that he knew it was wrong and had run away because he was afraid of what the owner of the house would do. He told me that he did not tell his parents because they had already told him not to play on his way home.

I was really sad to hear Marty’s story and I know many kids hide secrets like these or they lie about it.

This is very wrong we should learn to do good things even when no one is watching. This is called having a good character. A child who has a good character does good things when they are alone and nobody is watching them.

If you do wrong things when your teacher, mom or older siblings are not watching, then pretend when they are around, is not good. A child who has good character also treats other children with respect even when the teacher is not around.

I told my friend Marty that the solution was to go and confess his mistake to his parents which he did. They got the window fixed, and Marty said it felt so good to make things right.

It gave Marty a thrill.
Marty learned that even when mistakes frighten him, with good character he can try to make things right.
