RWANDA Kickboxing Club have confirmed they will organize the maiden Kickboxing Championships this year, scheduled for August 24-25 at Kigali Convention Center.

The two-day competition will be contested by players from Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. It will be the biggest and first of its kind in the country.

According to organizers, over 30 kick-boxers have already registered to participate and preparations for the competition are in advanced stages.

"We want to use the tournament to prepare the national team, and introduce the sport officially in the country so that many people, and the media in particular, can be aware of it,” Master Theogene Twagiramungu, head of the organizing team, told Sunday Sport on Saturday.

Kickboxing is a group of stand-up combat sport based on kicking and punching, and it was developed from karate and boxing.

The martial art is practiced for self-defense and general fitness.
