TAEKWONDO Ambassador’s Cup tournament 2018 has been scheduled for October 6-8 in Kigali. Rwanda Taekwando Federation, RTF, has confirmed.

The sixth edition of the annual tournament will be hosted either at Green Hills Academy or Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village. By press time yesterday, the local taekwondo governing body was yet to decide which one of the two venues would host the tournament.

Last year, hosts Rwanda dominated the Ambassador’s Cup medal table to win gold.

In club classification, Rwanda’s Dream Taekwondo Club clinched the trophy and was followed by Team Uganda Taekwondo while IYF Taekwondo Club, another home side, finished third.

According to Placide Bagabo, RTF president, there are invited participants from eight countries this year – a record number of countries.

He also disclosed that, this year, for the first time, they expect Ethiopia and Sudan to take part.

The tournament is sponsored by the Korean Embassy in Kigali, and organised by Rwanda Taekwondo Federation.

"Previously, the competition attracted few participants but the standards are going up, which can be seen by the level of interest from foreign teams,” Bagabo told Saturday Sport on Friday.

The three-day tournament will be contested by teams from Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, DR Congo, Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan, Ethiopia and Rwanda.
