Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) Wednesday appointed Vincent Mashami as new head coach of the senior national football team on a one-year, renewable, contract.

The former APR coach served as the team’s assistant coach to German Antoine Hey who stepped down earlier this year. Ever since, Mashami had been the interim caretaker.

Hey’s contract was terminated on mutual agreement following Amavubi’s failure to reach the knock-out stages at this year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals in Morocco.

Mashami, who has on several occasions managed the national teams at different levels; youth, junior and Olympic team, is one of the highest ranking local football coaches. He, alongside 11 other local coaches, were awarded CAF A Coaching licenses last year.

Mashami’s appointment comes just three weeks before Amavubi host Ivory Coast, on September 9, in the qualifiers of the 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
