Rayon Sports 2-0 Sunrise (3-2 aggr)

Two second-half goals from Olivier Seif Niyonzima and Kevin Muhire were enough on thursday as Rayon Sports denied Sunrise FC what would have been their first Peace Cup final.

Hopefuls Rayon beat the Nyagatare-based side 2-0 to set up a date with Mukura VS in this year’s Peace Cup final – set for Sunday, August 12 at Kigali Stadium.

Niyonzima netted the opener in the 66th minute with a strong strike from outside the box before attacking midfielder Muhire doubled the lead, assisted by Yannick Mukunzi, to seal the final berth for the Blues who are looking for their first Peace Cup title since 2016.

With ten minutes to play, Sunrise defender Leo Uwambajimana was sent off by referee Louis Hakizimana after being booked for a second time on the night.

In the first-leg on Monday, Sunrise had beaten Rayon 2-1 in Nyagatare.

Roberto Oliveira Goncalves do Calmo’s Rayon will face Francis Haringingo’s Mukura, who edged APR in semi-finals on Wednesday, in the final on Sunday, while APR will be up against Sunrise in the third place playoff.

The 2018 Peace Cup winners will automatically book the ticket to represent the country in CAF Confederation Cup in the 2018/2019 season.
