New Power Generation; The new voice for the Youth?

New Power Generation.

It’s certainly the best thing that has happened to radio, not forgetting the youth. New Power Generation is a crew of three young people with an ambition of taking radio presentation to another level.

If you got to know the name behind this, you wouldn’t doubt anything they do. The trio comprises of Rwanda’s Dance Ambassador Ganza Didier, a musician of his own standing as well.

The other member is a Dancehall Queen, Gigi Bryon, a.k.a Gangstar Gal. She happens to be a great dancer, rapper, musician and now presenter. Multi –talented indeed!

Casandra Gasana a.k.a Cassou is the other member of the group that you ought to watch out for. She is by far the craziest of all, funny and talkative. And by crazy, I don’t mean ‘mental case’ but happy-go-lucky-funny kind.

She’s the type that makes you not to want to touch the radio dial. That’s about the members, aptly the show is also called New Power Generation.

The name was suggested by Albert Mutanguha, Gigi’s dad, their mentor and one of the pioneers of Radio in this land. New Power Generation is the original group of music legend Prince. Of course you know Prince, don’t you?

The show runs every Saturday on Contact FM. I got in touch with everyone of them, to know what makes them outstanding and what they’ve got for radio and the fans.

Ganza

We are a crew of young people enthusiastic to talk and listen to the youth out there. We know the youth constitute the majority of the country’s population, but it looks as if they don’t get enough forums to air out their views. So we are going to be their voices to the outside world.

We are also not scared of the task ahead despite our age. Unlike my colleagues, I’ve worked on radio before but that doesn’t mean that they are scared of anything or anyone.

I like radio presenting because I get the feeling that someone somewhere is listening to what I’m saying. That’s me, entertaining people, is my true nature. It also makes shy people like me relieved.

We want to transform radio for the better. Many of the shows currently sound similar. We want to make a difference and to be recognised as a crew that did the renaissance for Rwandan radio.

We are going to be radio presenters not music mixers like some of the presenters today. We shall chat, listen, educate and entertain the youth about what life has got for them.

GIGI

Certainly there is always something to do about one’s life and entertaining people is one such thing. Introducing new things, adding flavour to what has been happening; that’s what we are doing.

Since we are part of the youth and also the future generation, we know what they want and what they expect from us. We are all ready to give our all and see that the young people’s voices are heard everywhere.

I love the job because it is a simple way to make my young body useful. It is also a way of cutting the boredom and off course making good money.

Most young people, especially the girls are getting money the wrong way because they want to rely on someone for it. I need some independence.

Again I’m here because I want to be popular like my dad, mum and brother. Again my Dad has played a major role in my life and I hope I make it beyond his expectation.

CASSOU

Our show will mainly focus on the youth and try to spell out every single problem of theirs that we feel needs to be addressed.

We make a formidable trio that is unmatched. But what is important is the presence of us (the two girls) on the team. We have been there, done it, and I think we are the right people to change the course of all the young people, most especially the girls losing track of life.

New Power Generation is unmatched because; it will be an open show where everyone will be free to say what they please. Priority will be given to the youth because they are the future generation and the focus of the show.

My other compatriots are musicians, stage dancers, and now presenters. Personally, I’m on radio because I’m a rebel of a kind. I rebel against any evil my eyes meet and don’t concur with.
