Rwanda national women’s football team face Kenya in their last match of this year’s CECAFA Women Senior Challenge this afternoon at Kigali Stadium.

The hosts will have a mountain to climb as they attempt to make the impossible possible.

For She-Amavubi to win the highly coveted regional tournament, they will have to sting Kenya Starlets by a four-goal margin or bigger, hoping that favourites Ethiopia and holders Tanzania play out a goalless draw in another much-awaited clash today.

"We are in a very complex situation but it’s still possible and that’s our motivation going into the Kenya tie. The 3-0 defeat to Ethiopia complicated things for us, we would be in a much better position had we performed differently in that game,” She-Amavubi coach Jean Baptiste Kayiranga told Times Sport yesterday.

He added: "The Kenya clash is a must-win for us and then we can hope for a result that favours us in the other fixture.

"Overall, the tournament has been a good experience for the ladies; remember they had not played an international match since 2016. With more games, we can do better in future competitions.” 

Ahead of today’s fixtures, which also mark the climax of the tournament, the Cranes of Uganda, who have played all their four games, top the table with seven points.

Ethiopia are in second place with six points followed by Tanzania who are joint on four points with Rwanda but have a better goal difference. 

Should Ethiopia overcome Kilimanjaro Queens of Tanzania, they will automatically be crowned the 2018 Cecafa champions, regardless of the result between Rwanda and Kenya.

The week-long tournament ,which is played in a round-robin format, started on July 19 in Kigali and will be coming to a close today.
