The national U18 ladies beach volleyball team has qualified for this year’s Youth Olympic Games after finishing second to win silver at the ongoing African Youth Games in Algeria.

Despite losing to Mozambique in the final on Tuesday afternoon, Rwanda will represent Africa at the Youth Olympics – come October 6-18 in Buenos Aires, Argentina – along with gold medalists Mozambique and bronze medalists Egypt.

Christophe Mudahinyuka’s duo of Valentine Munezero and Penelope Musabyimana who were still unbeaten till reaching the final, won the first set 22-21 but Mozambique quickly turned tables up to effortlessly take the next two sets 21-11 and 15-7 to scoop gold medals.

Rwanda reached the final after edging out Egypt in the last four while Mozambique had seen off Algeria in semi-finals on Monday.

Meanwhile, Mozambique also gold in boys’ category after overpowering Ghana in the final.
