The national U18 ladies beach volleyball team has made history to reach the final game in African Youth Games for a second successive time after easing past Egypt in two sets on Monday night in Algiers, Algeria.

The 2018 Africa Youth Games kick-off on July 18 and will run through July 28.

The duo of Valentine Munezero and Penelope Musabyimana overpowered Egypt 21-15 and 21-17 to set date with Mozambique in the final today – starting at 1pm.

Rwanda advanced to quarter-finals over the weekend after finishing the group stages unbeaten, winning all their four games against Sierra Leone, Cameroon, DR Congo and Kenya.

In the round of last eight, Rwanda edged out Morocco in three sets (2-1) 19-21, 21-18 and 15-6 on Monday morning before sending Egypt packing in the afternoon.

The two ladies stand on the verge of winning gold, which would make Rwanda the first country to claim the top honors in ladies’ beach volleyball two times a row following the 2014 golden performance by Selphine Mukantambara and Lea Uwimbabazi who lifted the title in Botswana.

Mozambique reached the final after beating the hosts Algeria in the last four.
