KARONGI — A market worth Rwf600 million is under construction in Karongi District, paving the way for improved business propects. This was revealed on Tuesday, by the district vice Mayor in charge of Finance and Economy.

Talking to The New Times, J.Baptiste Hakizimana said the market will be constructed to modern standards in two phases.

He explained that Rfw.300million will be spent in the first phase, while the remaining Rwf.300million will complete the second phase, and the construction is expected to end this year.

‘We have hopes that this market will be completed this year. It was supposed to have been completed last year but we had not secured a suitable site to build it’, he said.

Asked about the funding, Hakizimana said all the money will come from the Ministry of Local Government’s Community Development Fund (CDF).

‘All the construction will be financed by CDF and already the first phase has started. We hope the whole work will be completed at the end of this year since the money is available’, he said, further explaining that the district had decided to give construction works to area residents, but later hired ABAJER Construction Company.
