American point guard Michael Dixon has left APR basketball club after agreeing to a move to join Egyptian side Al Ittihad Alexandria.

Times Sport understands that the deal was completed earlier this week when the Egyptian club was in Rwanda for friendly games with the army side.

Dixon, 33, joined APR in October 2023 days after featuring for rivals Patriots in the playoffs of the Rwanda Basketball League 2023 season.

He is an experienced player with a career that has seen him play in the United States, Europe and Africa.

He was named Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2022 Most Valuable Player (MVP) after playing a crucial role in helping Tunisia’s US Monastir win the continental club basketball championship in Kigali that same year.

Dixon previously played in various leagues including the Czech National League, Greek Basket League, Turkish Basketball First League, Israeli Basketball Premier League, Lega Basket Serie A, and the Canadian Elite Basketball League.

His departure comes as a big blow for APR who were hoping to count on his services during the forthcoming Sahara Conference regular season which will be played in Dakar, Senegal, from May 4-12.

The Conference also comprises Tunisian powerhouse US Monastir, BAL 2023 runners-up AS Douanes of Senegal and Nigerian Champions Rivers Hoopers.

The top two teams from each conference and the best two third-placed teams from across the three conferences will travel to the BK Arena in Kigali for four seeding games followed by an eight-game, single-elimination playoffs and finals from May 24 to June 1.
