Ferwafa appoints Habimana as new Technical Director

Rwanda Football Federation, FERWAFA, has pointed Rwandan Hussein Habimana as the Technical Director, a position that has been vacant for the last two years.

Habimana replaces Hendrik Pieter de Jongh who was appointed in 2016. The Dutch stepped down few months later, citing what he called unprofessional approach to football management in the country. 

The new Technical Director Habimana will be tasked with defining and leading the national technical development programs.

He will develop a long-term vision and a technical strategy in order to improve the level of the game within the country and achieve identified targets on and off the pitch.

He and his department are likewise in charge of the implementation of all activities related to technical development, as well as the control, monitoring and assessment.

Habimana is a Rwandan who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management from Universite Libre de Bruxelles obtained from Solvay, Brussels. He played for APR Academy from 1997-2002 and SC Kiyovu from 2003-04 before heading to Europe.

During his football days in Europe, he played for Belgium’s RSC Anderlecht U-18-21 from 2004 – 2008, Belgium’s second division side K Boom from 2009-10 and RFC from 2011-2013.

He joins the local football governing body having served on the Technical staff team of the Canadian Girls U17 (Elite), Girls development teams U16, U19, U21 in CS Mont-Royal Outremont.

He has more than 5 years of coaching and development at various levels and age groups.
