Celebrated Rwandan singer and lyricist Niyo Bosco has announced plans to change his music style from secular to gospel.

The 'Urugi' hitmaker confirmed the change to The New Times, saying that he is currently living a different lifestyle that requires a change in everything he associates with, including the music he produces.

"I haven't changed my music line, I've just decided to live a different lifestyle which comes at a high cost of making some changes in my music career. For now, I'm going to focus more on gospel music that praises and worships God,” said the artiste.

This comes after Niyo experienced challenges in Rwandan music, which he recently claimed had caused him mental health problems, including depression.

The musician has been at loggerheads with various record labels since the start of his music career, all of whom he accused of fraudulently exploiting his talent and stealing income from his streaming platforms, until he recently secured a deal with a stable record label known as KIKAC Music last year.

Explaining the motive behind the switch to gospel music, Niyo noted that art has no limits and that updating what he produces shouldn't be a major concern, but rather an evolution.

The New Times understands that apart from Niyo's recently released track 'Ndabihiwe', the artiste has already informed his management line that he will not be producing or releasing another secular project, a move that could stop the release of his debut album in its final stages, as well as the visuals of the tracks that appeared on his recent EP 'New Chapter'.

It will not be Niyo's first time producing gospel music, having worked on and composed many gospel projects, including his breakthrough song 'Ubigenza Ute'.

"God has done a lot for me and making music that praises Him is the only way I can give back. I know my fans will enjoy the new me and they should be ready for more innovative music I'm cooking," he said.

Niyo further said that he appreciates from the bottom of his heart everyone who has supported him since 2020 when he started his professional music career.

Niyo Bosco joined KIKAC Music, in November 2023, one of the leading local record labels that currently produces and distributes his projects.

He rose to fame after the release of his first track 'Ubigenza Ute' and went on to release hits like Piyapuresha, Ishyano, Seka, Urugi and many more.
