On July 4 1994, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) brought an end the devastation caused by the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.  The liberators were mostly very young people who were determined to make enormous sacrifices for the unity and the development of the nation.

Sunday Magazine’s Sharon Kantengwa finds out people’s views on what lessons the youth can learn from Rwanda’s liberators?

The Liberation Day in Rwanda is a day that gives Rwandans hope for a better future. It’s also the day that we honor our heroes who ended the killing of innocent people and the rebirth of our country. I think that the youth should carry our liberator’s legacy on.

The youth should be ready to love and work for their country. In all we do, our country should come first and they should inspire others, especially since we already know the history of our country. Our liberators’ struggle should be a lesson that we do not have to wait for our parents or leaders to make a positive impact.

The values of the Rwandan culture was the base of our heroes who liberated this country. We have to know them deeply and keep them as a foundation for every positive activity. The youth should yearn to know their heroes, and heed to their wise words, having in mind that being a youth is an investment for their future.
