In celebration of Women's Month, Ecobank organised a special Umuganda event in partnership with Nyarugenge District, indicating their commitment to supporting women's health and well-being.

As part of this initiative, Ecobank donated 1,000 community-based health insurance (CBHI) packages, known as Mutuelle de Santé, to vulnerable women in the region.

The event took place on March 23 in Ruliba cell, Kigali sector, Nyarugenge District.

Desire Mana, Ecobank's head of marketing and communication, emphasised the bank's broader role in contributing to the country's development, particularly in areas such as health, environmental conservation, and education.

Mana explained that the donation of Mutuelle de Santé insurance aligns with Ecobank's mission to support communities beyond traditional banking services. He noted that some families struggle to afford health insurance, making this contribution especially impactful.

Christophe Ntirushwa, the Executive Secretary of Kigali sector, commended Ecobank for its partnership during Women's Month. He highlighted the importance of initiatives like Umuganda in protecting the environment and improving community well-being.

Ntirushwa also commended Ecobank for its pledge to support the area’s initiative to fight child stunting.

Reflecting on the current uptake of Mutuelle de Santé in the sector, Ntirushwa noted that they had reached 87 per cent coverage.

However, there were still families unable to afford insurance, making Ecobank's donation of 1,000 insurance packages an important step towards ensuring health security for vulnerable families.

One of the beneficiaries, Claudine Ingabire, expressed gratitude to Ecobank for the Mutuelle de Santé donation. As a single mother responsible for her family, including a child with speech and hearing disabilities, Ingabire emphasised the importance of accessible healthcare.

She explained that prior to the donation, financial constraints had made it difficult for her to obtain insurance for her family.
