The national senior basketball team will today take on Mozambique in the first game of their two scheduled games at Amahoro stadium as part of their final warm-ups for Window 2 of the 2019 FIBA World Cup – African Qualifiers. The game kicks-off at 6pm.

The upcoming qualifiers are scheduled for June 29-July 1 in Lagos, Nigeria.

Mozambique who are in Group D of the ongoing qualifiers jetted in on Wednesday, have been accommodated at the Mirror Hotel in Remera and have since been having daily training drills at Amahoro indoor stadium.

Maxime Mwiseneza’s 15-player provisional team which has been under intensive preparations in residential camp for the last three weeks, includes three foreign-based players; Kenneth Gasana, Dan Manzi and Kevin Ndahiro.

According to Mwiseneza, the two friendly games against Mozambique will not only show them how good they have prepared and areas of improvement but will also help me him select the final 12 players that will fly to Nigeria next week.

"The final squad will be announced after these friendly games. We strongly believe Mozambique are a good opponent to assess ourselves against before we fly out to Nigeria,” he said

The second game will be played on Sunday at 4pm, same venue.

Rwanda had a below par performance in Window 1 of the qualifiers earlier this year in Mali, where they finished at the bottom of the four-team table with four points. Uganda and Mali finished second and third respectively – both with also four points apiece.

The reigning African champions Nigeria topped the table with a maximum six points.
