It’s great to learn the Ministry of Education has issued a stern warning to school heads who hike school fees without going through the necessary procedures.

Rwanda’s dream is to have all her children attaining a proper and affordable education. This is because there are so many benefits to be attained from education. Look at all the developed nations; they are up there because they embraced education as a tool for development.

We should also try as much as possible to remove all obstacles in the path of education. Rwanda has a zero tolerance policy for corruption and fraud. It’s for this reason that those who try to take advantage of unsuspecting and education hungry Rwandans should be reprimanded.

It’s understandable that prices do change and that sometimes some budgetary adjustments have to be made. However, out of courtesy, the school heads should, if necessary, call for a special assembly and inform the concerned parties about the situation at hand.

It’s from such an assembly that alternatives can be discussed and agreed upon instead of just forcing things down helpless parents’ throats.

It’s good therefore to learn that, the Ministry of education is aware of this and is nipping the problem in the bud. It’s even better to learn that there are set procedures on school fees increments.

It’s on this note therefore that whoever tries to increase fees without going through the right channels should be treated as a fraudster.
