Five thousand individuals in Rwanda received medical care over ten days from Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), in collaboration with the United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM) and the Nebraska National Guard (NENG), RDF announced through a statement on March 21.

It indicated that the development was achieved under the joint medical outreach programme conducted in Rwamagana and Kayonza districts in the Eastern Province of Rwanda.

The data implies that the number of patients treated in the current outreach programme is more than double that of August 2023, when 2,000 were provided with healthcare.

Services provided in the recently concluded activity covered conditions in different areas including orthopedics, general surgery, internal medicine, gynecology and ophthalmology, ENT (ear, nose, and throat), pediatrics, as well as dental and clinical psychology.

Specifically, Lt Col Dr John Bukuru from Rwanda Military Hospital said that the joint team carried out 92 successful surgeries at Rwamagana Teaching Hospital, Gahini District Hospital (in Kayonza District), and Mwulire Health Centre ( a health facility in Rwamagana District), the statement indicated.

He expressed gratitude for the partnership between the two military forces and the local government, which facilitated the treatment of a significant number of patients within a short timeframe.
