Volleyball: Gisagara eye REG win to retain league title

Men’s finals, Game 2 REG – Gisagara 6 pm

Women’s finals, APR – RRA 10 am

A win over REG today will be enough for Gisagara to seal a second volleyball league title in a row. The two sides square-off today in Game 2 of this year’s Play-off Games finals. The encounter gets under at 6pm, at Amahoro stadium.

The defending champions won Game 1 in four sets a fortnight ago in at Gisagara gymnasium.

Fresh from winning this year’s Genocide Memorial Volleyball Tournament last Sunday, Fidele Nyirimana’s side are optimistic for a crucial away win tonight to retain the league crown.

The Gisagara district-sponsored side also won the memorial tournament after edging Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in straight sets in the final at Amahoro stadium.

In the third place play-off, University of Tourism Technology and Business Studies (UTB) host APR in Game 2 at 11am. The versity side won Game 1 in four sets.

In the women’s category, defending champions Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) and bitter rivals APR face-off Game 2, with the tax collectors having in sight a sixth consecutive league title since 2013.

RRA claimed Game 1 two weeks ago, 21-25, 25-14, 25-21 and 31-29 respectively.
