The national U18 girls’ team will be up against reigning league champions, APR, in their final warm up game ahead of the forthcoming FIBA Africa Zone V Championship. The game is slated for 6pm at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

The regional showpiece takes place from June 17 through June 22 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The game will be Charles Mushumba side’s seventh league game and will be aiming for their second league win since the start of the 2018 season in which they were included as part of their preparations for the biennial competition.

The 14-player team was boosted by Sunday’s arrival of center Bella Murekatete who plays for Genesis Preparatory Academy in Richmond, Virginia, which Mushumba described as ‘a huge boost’ to the youthful team.

Since the start of the season, the U18 side has played six games and only managing to win one – 74-37 against struggling Regina Pacis.

At the biennial event in Dar, Rwanda will compete in both the 5*5 and 3*3 categories.

The three-on-three basketball will be contested by youth teams from four countries; Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda while the five-on-five segment will see three countries; Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda, battling for the top honors.

Last year, the very team participated in the FIBA U16 Zone V championships in Mombasa, Kenya, where they finished second to win silver, behind champions Egypt.
