Yes, the media can make or break

Dear Editor,

I would like to thank the Rwandan media for significantly contributing to the re-building and general development of a new Rwanda.

Different government officials like the Ag.Commissioner General of Police Mary Gahonzire have constantly thanked the media for partnering with government for a good cause.

We are glad that our media is supporting development initiatives. This is a great advantage considering the fact that the media can make or break society.

We are witnesses of the bad media that fuelled the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi so definitely we are proud of what we have today.

Keep up the good work. But to do better, media houses need to facilitate the journalists. We still have cases in Rwanda where some media houses exploit journalists by not paying them fair wages.

These poor journalists are surviving on handouts from news sources. If you do not pay these journalists, they are vulnerable to being used by negative forces who will pay them any amount to write or broadcast tarnishing news against the state, corporate organisation or public officials.
