Hundred sof youths on Saturday gathered at Kigali Car Free Zone as they joined European Community for an evening of entertainment and fun at
the second edition of European Street Fair.
The European Street Fair is an annual activity organised by the
European Delegation to Rwanda as part of the ongoing Europe Day
Celebrations.
It also serves as an opportunity for the Rwandan public to interact
with EU diplomats and citizens and learn more about what the EU does in the
country to support development
"This is a perfect moment for us as we are here to celebrate Europe
Day with Rwandan community. As the European Union plays a role in
Rwanda’s development, we should also be celebrating our days with
Rwanda community,” said Xavier, a French resident in Rwanda.
The Street Fair included a variety of activities, like art exhibitions, traditional dances and drumming by
Ingoma Nshya Troupe, jam sessions, and music from
upcoming and popular local artistes.
With the event open to the general public, even kids had their
space of adventure and games, including face painting and other
lifestyle activities while youth had to show their talents and
magic through acrobatic road shows.
Visual artists were also in the car free zone, painting
different visual artworks of European theme before they were later
exhibited before the audience on stage, to explain the message behind
them.
As the most important moment of the street fair [music] arrived comedian and radio personality Arthur Nkusi, the event host, had to
make sure the audience was in fine mood with DJ Toxxyk on the decks to drop his finest music mix to help folks enjoy food and drinks which
were on sale at the venue
The music section opened doors to some rising artistes to showcase
their talent before an even bigger and passionate audience.
Indeed some successfully impressed the crowd while others found out
that they still have some work to do to get where they want to be.
Green Ferry, Angel Mutoni, Weya Viatora, and Nyundo Music All Stars
all managed to exploit the opportunity by delivering excellent
performance.
It was just few minutes past 9 pm when top musicians, including rapper
Jay Polly, Dream Boys and 2018 Primus Guma Guma Superstar contestant Bruce Melodie succeeded each other on stage and none of them
disappointed.
The Dream Boys duo of Platini Nemeye and Jean Claude Mujyanama
performed a number of their old hits, including ‘Si Inzika’, ‘Magorwa’,
‘Iteka niteka’, ‘Mpamiriza ukuri’ and ‘No One Like Me’, their collaboration
with Ugandan music maestro Eddy Kenzo, and their more recent songs like ‘Yale Yale’, ‘70’, ‘Azaza’, ‘Bucece’ before Jay Polly joined them on stage for
their two collaborations in ‘Mumutashye’ and ‘Mpamiriza Ukuri’.
The duo enjoyed a memorable night with their fans until they invited
young supporters for a dance competition for some of their
songs, which ended with two of them winning Rwf5, 000 each –not too
bad for the youngsters.
Dream Boys left the stage for the rapper to keep entertaining the youth.
Jay Polly delivered a great performance which got the audience cheering as he
sung his popular songs like ‘Ikosora’, ‘Vuza Ingoma’, his collaboration
with the already split music group TBB, ‘Twubatse Ahakomeye’, ‘Deux Fois Deux’ before he called upon Bruce Melodie to sing with him their
collaboration ‘ Too Much’.
Bruce Melodie kicked off a nonstop live performance alongside his
guitarist, singing his old and new hits like Uzandabure, Turaberanye,
Ndakwanga, ‘Ntundize’, ‘Emberazo’, his collabo with Sheebah, ‘Ntakibazo’,
Ikinya and concluded his performance with ‘Ndumiwe’, leaving the audience
yarning more from the R&B singer.
The show ended at 11.30 pm and everybody left the venue with a smile.
