Bonaventure Uwizeyimana yet again proved he might be living his best cycling days on Saturday afternoon as he overcame stiff challenge to win the 2018 Race to Remember.

It was the third race of this year’s Rwanda Cycling Cup, which honours victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Riders were flagged off from Kigali at Gitikinyoni to Nyanza town in South Province – a 130-Kilomètre distance in the elite men & U23 category.

Fresh from winning the 15th Tour du Cameroun, the Club Benediction’s rider did it again, out competing the 36 cyclists in the elite men and under-23 category to claim the race.

The former Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka rider clocked three hours, thirty six minutes and forty nine seconds to beat the first runner-up and the 2016 Rwanda Cycling Cup winner Gasore Hategeka (3:38:19) who rides for Nyabihu Cycling Club

Didier Munyaneza, from Club Benediction finished third after using 3:42:39 while Les Amis Sportifs’ Seth Hakizimana (3:43:45) settled for fourth place, two seconds ahead of fifth-placed Patrick Byukusenge, also from Benediction Club.

The Race to Remember is Uwizeyimana’s third victory out of three races he has been to in the last three weeks, starting with May 19 when he clinched Farmers’ Circuit from Kayonza to Muhanga before defying odds to scoop the recently concluded Tour du Cameroun.

Meanwhile in the juniors’ category, Jean Baptiste Nsabimana from Fly Cycling Club won it after using 2:52:03 in the 97-Kilomètre ride from Kamonyi to Nyanza.

Valentine Nzayisenga from Club Benediction clocked 2:38:19 to win the women race, beating teammate Jacqueline Tuyishimire (2:38:19) by one second to the finish-line.
