AS Kigali         Vs           Marines

Tuesday Rayon             1-2         Amagaju

Rayon Sports’ hopes to retain the Azam Rwanda Premier League (ARPL) title are hanging by the thread following Tuesday’s shock 2-1 defeat to strugglers Amagaju FC at Amahoro National Stadium.

For the defending champions to reclaim the title, they will need to win all their remaining six games and hope that leaders APR drop seven points, while second-placed AS Kigali will also need to drop five points.

Forward Mustafa ‘baba’ Yahaya opened the scoring for Amagaju in the 27th minute before Dieudonné Munezero doubled the visitors’ lead eleven minutes later.

Injury-ravaged Djabel Imanishimwe scored the consolation goal for the hosts in the 45th minute.

Burundian talisman Hussein ‘Tchabalala’ Shaban, Gilbert Mugisha and Chris Mbondi had several opportunities to salvage at least a point but they were too wasteful, with Gad Muhawenayo also impressing in goal for the Southern Province side.

AS Kigali host Marines

Meanwhile, hopefuls AS Kigali will be looking to collect all three points when they host Marines this afternoon at Kigali Stadium.

Victory for AS Kigali would see them leapfrog APR to the summit of the league standings, with a point clear.

Eric Nshimiyimana’s side thrashed Marines 4-1 in their tie during the first half of the season. The later only managed four wins out of the last 24 meetings between the two sides, with AS Kigali winning on 14 occasions, while they drew four times.
