Team Rwanda cyclists were made to wait for a first stage win at the ongoing 15th Tour du Cameroun after Patrick Byukusenge again fell nanoseconds off Slovakia’s Martin Haring to finish second in Stage 4 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Dukla Banská Bystrica rider Haring claimed the 75.5km Doula-Limbe race in a sprint photo finish against Byukusenge with both riders clocking one hour, 53 minutes and 41 seconds.

This is the second time that Byukusenge has finished second at the one-week long race in the West African country. He also settled for the same position in Stage One last Saturday.

Former Dimension Data for Qhubeka’s rider Uwizeyimana was the second best Team Rwanda’s rider yesterday, just 23 seconds adrift of stage winner to finish in fourth place.

Meanwhile, Monday’s Stage 3 across the City of Douala was halted by heavy downpours during riders were on their tenth lap of the fifteen they were supposed to do, to complete the 108.0km distance of the day. Consequently, the stage was scrapped off the race.

After four stages, Frenchman Noél Richet still holds the yellow jersey with a total time of 10 hours 27 minutes and 47 seconds. Byukusenge is Rwanda’s best, in the fourth place with a time of 10:28:50 while Uwizeyimana (10:29:08) is in seventh spot.

On the other hand, the 2015 Tour du Rwanda champion Jean Bosco Nsengimana still holds onto the polka dots jersey since Stage 1 as the King of the Mountains.
