Rwanda’s second seed Olivier Havugimana is looking to putting up a commanding performance during the upcoming Genocide Tennis Memorial Tournament – set for June 8-16 in Kigali.

The 22-year-old who captained the Rwandan team at the 2017 Davis Cup tournament in Cairo, Egypt, revealed his ambition to Times Sport yesterday during a training session.

Havugimana has been at the top of his game in the last three years, winning a number of domestic competitions and representing the country in various international tournaments.

However, he is yet to win the annual memorial tournament and is confident this year is his time to shine and break the duck.

"I want to win it this time round, I am training very hard on a daily basis and hopefully the hard work will pay off,” a confident Havugimana said.

He added that, "I will also use this platform as a warm-up opportunity for the Davis Cup. I am not going to take any opponent for granted.”

This year’s Davis Cup is scheduled for June 18-25 in Nairobi, Kenya, two days after the conclusion of the memorial showpiece, which is organised in honor of the over one million lives lost during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Last year, the competition was dominated by guest participants from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Arnold Ikondo won the men’s category while compatriot Nancy Onya claimed the top prize in the women’s category.
