Pepiniere FC will only need a draw in the return leg to advance to the last four round after overcoming Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle 2-1 on Sunday during their quarterfinal first leg clash in the second division football league.

The former Azam Rwanda Premier League side was relegated from the topflight league at the end of the 2016/2017 season after spending one year in the championship.

Patrick Dukundane netted the opening goal in the 28th minute before Mudasiri Twagiramungu extended Pepiniere’s lead in the 32nd minute. Antoine Turatsinze scored the consolation goal for Vision JN in the 59th minute.

According to coach Jean Paul Muhoza, the target for Pepiniere is to make a quick return to topflight football league. "My players have consistently showed courage and commitment this season, the away win at Vision JN is a sign of how far we are willing to go. Our goal is to earn promotion back to topflight league at the first attempt.”

In other matches played  Sunday, AS Muhanga beat Rwamagana 2-0 at Rwamagana ground, Intare and Unity FC played to a goalless draw whereas United Stars and Sorwathe also shared goalless spoils.

The eight teams will lock horns in the return-leg fixtures on June 3 to determine the four teams that advance to semi-finals.
