AZAM Rwanda Premier League leaders AS Kigali will be hoping to collect all points when they face third-placed Kiyovu this afternoon at Mumena stadium.
On the other hand, Kiyovu are looking to narrow the gap on the table toppers with a win today, which would see them move to within four points of AS Kigali.
Andre Casa Mbungo’s Kiyovu have not won the league title since 1993 and the head coach insists that his side are still in contention for the league title.
The City of Kigali-sponsored outfit are in the hunt for their first league title since the club was created in 2001 – initially under the name ‘Les Citadins’ before changing to AS Kigali five years later.
Kiyovu remain the only Rwandan football club to have won the league unbeaten for a whole season – in 1990.
The two sides have met 26 times since 2006 with AS Kigali winning nine matches, Kiyovu emerging winners on five occasions with ten ties ending in draws.
Mbungo told Times Sport: "We are not very far from the top and the gap will even be thinner if we defeat AS Kigali on Tuesday (today)”.
Going into today’s game, which starts at 3:30p.m, Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali are on top of the table with 45 points from 21 games while Kiyovu are third with 38 points from 22 games.
In an interview on Monday, Nshimyimana said his side are at a point in the title race where every point dropped dents their hopes for the league title and "we will fight for victory with all that we got. Players are fit and ready for the game.”
With five weeks to the end of the 2017/2018 topflight league season, AS Kigali are left with nine fixtures while the Nyamirambo-based green-and-white outfit have eight games to play.
Meanwhile, Etincelles held reigning champions Rayon Sports to a 1-all draw on Sunday at Kigali stadium, making it a sixth draw for the blues in eight games.
On Sunday, Miroplast lost 0-2 to Musanze at Mironko stadium, while Gicumbi and Mukura played out a goalless draw in Gicumbi District.
