Cecafa has confirmed Sudan as the host of the forthcoming 2008 edition of the Cecafa/Kagame club championship.

The Cecafa Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye said told Times Sports that the regional body has decided to give the hosting rights for next year’s edition of the club championship to Sudan.

The championship that will be staged in Khartoum is due to be played earlier next year and the dates are yet to be confirmed. "Sudan has already confirmed to host the event and they have started preparing for the tournament which will attract regional football league champions,” Musonye said.

"We have not yet decided on the dates because we don’t want to collide with both Caf and Fifa calendar,” Musonye added.

Musonye further thanked Rwanda President, Paul Kagame for the continued support towards the development of the sport in the region.

"We are really grateful to President Kagame for the continued support and sponsorship towards the club championship as well as the development of the sport in the region,” Musonye added.

The regional club championship is bankrolled by the Rwandan president to a tune of US $ 60000.

Rwandan side APR FC are the tournament’s reigning champions.
