RWANDA’s Under-20 Amavubi take on champions Zambia at Kigali Stadium this afternoon in their first leg clash of the second round qualifiers of the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations finals.

Rwanda has not been to finals of the biennial continental tournament since 2009, when it hosted the competition.

Speaking to Saturday Sport on Friday, Junior Wasps head coach Vincent Mashami said his team had shown commitment to secure victory today.

"Zambia is a great footballing nation and we have respect for that but their status won’t scare us. We have learned their style of play and are prepared accordingly. We will be out for a win, nothing less,” he said. 

The former APR head coach noted that his team is in great mood and confidence was high in camp.

"It’ll be a tough game, which will require physical, tactical and mental preparedness to win, but the boys are equipped on all the fronts and, above all, they are inspired to make their country proud,.” he added. 

En route to the second round of qualifiers, Rwanda bundled out their counterparts of Kenya a fortnight ago, thanks to an away goal advantage. The teams played out a 1-all draw in Nairobi before sharing goalless spoils in the return leg in Kigali.

After the first leg, Rwanda will head to Zambia for the return-leg slated for May 18.

The winners over the two legs will qualify for the finals tournament to be staged in Niger from February 24 through March 10 next year.
