The inaugural Transform Africa Golf Tournament concluded on Thursday night at the newly launched Kigali Golf Club.

It was the last activity on the agenda for delegates who attended this week’s Transform Africa Summit in Kigali.

Organised by Smart Africa in partnership with Kigali Golf Club and sponsored by Rwanda Development Board (RDB), the one-day tournament attracted more than 95 golfers.

Players included foreign and domestic golfers.

The awards ceremony, held in the evening, coincided with the official inauguration of the Kigali Golf Club.

Rwanda’s Innocent Rutuma claimed the professional men’s category, walking away with a trophy and a return ticket to Europe courtesy of sponsors RwandAir. Another Rwandan, Steven Rwambika, finished second.

Anna Mary was the best in the ladies category, while Linda Jenny and Anna Rwigema were the first and second runner-ups, respectively. 

Rwanda Golf Union chairman Andrew Nkwadi won the senior men’s category followed by Karan Singh and Johnson Kengeta, respectively.

A number of prizes, including golf gloves, balls, kits as well as air tickets and helicopter scenic travel vouchers, were up for grabs.

Addressing the guests and participants at the new golf 18-hole golf course, the chief executive of Rwanda Development Board, Clare Akamanzi, said that, as lead sponsors, RDB was honoured to be part of the occasion and promised to continue promoting golf tourism in the country.  

Also present at the closing ceremony was Dr Hamadoun Touré, the Executive Director of Smart Africa Secretariat, among other dignitaries.
