May 20 Kigali International Peace Marathon

Over 1000 people are expected to participate the third edition of Kigali Night Run later today.

According to organisers, the 5.4km race is open to all and will be starting from Kigali Business Centre (KBC) roundabout in Kimihurura at 7pm.

The annual event is organised in partnership with Rwanda Development Board, the Ministry of Sports and Culture, the City of Kigali, and Rwanda National Police since 2016 as a build-up race to Kigali International Peace Marathon.

Runners will set off from KBC roundabout, pass behind Kigali Convention Centre to Ministry of Justice and head down to the Netherlands embassy in Kacyiru, then  to KCB roundabout again, head to Primature (Office of the Prime Minister) and return to KCB roundabout.

According to Rwanda Athletics president Fidèle Mubiligi, the main objective of this event is to increase the awareness of the main event (Kigali International Peace Marathon) but to also give people a chance to explore the scenery of the City of Kigali at night.

The 14th Kigali International Peace Marathon is set for May 20 and will be contested by a record 8,000 participants in three different categories namely; full marathon (42km), half-marathon (21km) and a 7-kilometre run for fun.

Kigali International Peace Marathon is the only marathon event globally organised to promote peace and humanity.
