Div2 league: Rwamagana book ticket for knock-outs

Rwamagana City’s hard fought 2-1 away win to Vision FC on Wednesday afternoon guaranteed them a spot to playoffs as they bid for a quick return to topflight division league.

Striker Etienne Tuyishime netted twice for Rwamagana, in the 35th and 67th minute respectively while Maurice Irakoze scored the consolation goal for Vision FC in the 81st minute.

The Rwamagana district-sponsored side jumped to third with 39 points from fifth position in Group A.

They joined unbeaten Sorwathe (51 points) and second-placed Pepiniere who had already booked tickets to quarter-finals.

Unity FC also qualified for the knock-out stage.

In Group B, leaders and former Peace Cup finalists AS Muhanga (43 points), second-placed Intare FC (39 points) and United Stars (35 points) in third have also booked slots to play-offs.

Fourth-placed Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle with 32 points and Heroes FC with a point adrift in fifth position will have to wait till the last round of group matches to determine who will join the three in knock-outs.

After the group stages, top four teams in each of Group will start the knock-out phase on May 26, fighting for two promotion tickets to Azam Rwanda Premier league in the 2018/2019 season.
