STAR TIMES Basketball National League hopefuls Patriots overcame IPRC-South in an 84-69 victory on Saturday evening at Petit Stade in Remera to unseat holders, Rwanda Energy Group (REG), atop of the table.

Patriots had lost the lead to arch-rivals REG last month. On Friday, the defending champions lost in a tightly fought contest, 81-82, to Albert Buhake’s IPRC-Kigali, making it their third defeat of the season.

Patriots have only lost two games, and lead the title race with 23 points, one ahead of Cyril Kalima’s REG in the second place.

Patriots held control of the game from the get-go, taking the first quarter 17-12 even with a few failed attempts for Charles Mushumba’s men to turn tables up in the second quarter, which they hardly claimed on a one-point 19-18 score-line.

In women’s championship, top contenders IPRC-South humiliated Musanze-based Regina Pacis in a resounding 102-35 win, ensuring their fourth victory of the season out of five games.
