The Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) Annual General Meeting starts this morning at Hotel des Mille Collines in Kigali.

This is the first time CAT annual general meeting (AGM) has been held in Rwanda.

Organised by the African tennis governing body, in conjunction with Rwanda Tennis Federation, the two-day gathering drew delegates from over 60 CAT affiliate federations. 

Besides CAT president Tarak Cherif and members of the executive committee, the meeting will also be boosted by the presence of International Tennis Federation (ITF) president David Haggerty, who is visiting the country for the first time since assuming office in 2015. 

Talking to Times Sport on Thursday, Rwanda Tennis Federation’s secretary general Valens Habimana said that the delegates had already started arriving and "everything is in place for the meeting.” 

"We expect 61 participants; some are already here while others are expected later today (Thursday). Our guests will visit Kigali Memorial Centre on Friday and do Umuganda on Saturday, among other scheduled activities.” Habimana told Times Sport yesterday.

On the agenda of the meeting, the main items to be discussed include; the approval of the 2017 AGM minutes, discussion and approval of the 2017 financial report, annual report of CAT president, and the annual report of the confederation Participants will also discuss potential partnerships geared at the development of the sport starting from grassroots. 

CAT is divided into five zones, all of which are represented at the Kigali meeting; Zone I (Northern Africa), Zone II (West Africa),  Zone III (Central Africa),  Zone IV (Eastern Africa), and Zone V (Southern Africa).

The 2017 AGM was hosted in Tunisia.

This year’s meeting takes place a month after the City of Kigali hosted regional Under-12 tournament which saw Rwanda qualify for continental showdown next month in Morocco.
