Rwanda failed to participate in the U19 Africa beach volleyball championships due to financial constraints, it has emerged.

The tournament took place in DR Congo from April 20 -22.

The secretary-general of Rwanda volleyball federation (FRVB), Adalbert Mfashimana, speaking in an exclusive interview with Times Sport, confirmed that the youth team could not travel for the event over lack of funds.

"The competition was not included in RNOSC (Rwanda National Olympic Committee) budget,” Mfashimana said.

Penelope Musabyimana and Valentine Munezero were supposed to represent Rwanda at the competition which served as a qualifier for the world beach volleyball tournament slated next year in China.

But Mfashimana said they expected to participate in the African youth Olympics due July in Algeria.
