Police lose to Etincelles, drop to eighth place

Police were shock 2-1 losers against visitors Etincelles on Monday at Kigali Stadium, with the Emmanuel Ruremesha side coming from behind to bag all points.

Antoine Dominique Ndayishimiye had put Police ahead in the 30th minute, but Innocent Seninga’s side lost their lead when forward Claude Saiba Mumbele scored in the 40th minute before Saiba Mumbele struck the winner for the Rubavu-based club in the 75th minute.

The result saw Police, who had started the day in fifth, drop to eighth with 22 points, while Etincelles moved into sixth with 23 points.

The game was supposed to have been played on Saturday at Kicukiro stadium but it was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and subsequently rescheduled to Monday at Kigali Stadium.

APR now lead the 2017/18 Azam Rwanda Premier League table standings following their 2-0 victory over Sunrise in Nyagatareon Sunday.

Midfielder Jean Claude Iranzi and striker Issa Bigirimana scored the goals for the military side in the 72nd and 76th minutes, respectively.

APR have 31 points from 16 matches, one ahead of Rayon Sports who have a game in hand, against AS Kigali, who are in third place with 29 points.

Sunrise are now in fifth with 25 points; Bugesera, who beat Amagaju 1-0 are in seventh place with 23 points; while Amagaju dropped to 14th place with 13 points. Mukura thrashed Kirehe 4-0 to jump into ninth place with 21 points, while Kirehe remain in 12th place with 15 points.

Espoir drew 1-1 with Gicumbi, with the former in 13th with 15 points while the latter are on bottom with 12 points.
