A thriving Rwanda requires builders – leaders with the vision, creativity, and skill set to continually reinvent our nation. File

In each generation, there is a moment when the pulse of a nation quickens, and its destiny trembles in the balance. For Rwanda, that moment is now.

As Franz Fanon wisely said, "each generation must discover its mission, fulfill it or betray it.” Now, as we reflect on our remarkable journey, it becomes imperative for all generations of Rwandans to unite under a common vision – a vision that propels us towards sustained success and prosperity. Our way of life, hard-fought and written in blood, must never be taken for granted.

In a very short time, Rwanda has transformed into a beacon of hope, defying the odds that history had once stacked against us. The question that now echoes through the hills and valleys of our beloved land is this: going forward, do we need fighters or builders, or both? The answer, unequivocally, is both. Because, in a world where challenges lurk around every corner, a small and vulnerable country like Rwanda needs leaders who can embody the duality of warriors and architects.

Our leaders must be fighters, possessing the courage and tenacity to safeguard Rwanda from external threats. The geographical challenges we face, bordered by less-than-ideal neighbors, demand a steadfast commitment to our sovereignty. We cannot afford to rest on laurels, and our defenders must be vigilant, ensuring that the sacrifices of the past are not in vain. The echoes of our struggle for survival must resound in the hearts of those entrusted with the responsibility of protecting our homeland.

However, the mandate does not end there. A thriving Rwanda requires builders – leaders with the vision, creativity, and skill set to continually reinvent our nation. The landscape of progress is ever-evolving, and static nations risk stagnation. Our builders must be architects of innovation, working tirelessly to construct a sustainable future for Rwanda. Economic prosperity, social harmony, and technological advancements must be woven into the very fabric of our nation.

To love Rwanda is more than a sentiment; it is a commitment to the relentless pursuit of excellence. The acknowledgement that, while we may not be a perfect people, we possess the capacity to continually improve. Each generation must contribute to the collective journey of becoming a better nation and, by extension, better individuals. It is a call to dedicate our time, energy, and passion to the noble cause of elevating Rwanda to greater heights.

As we stand on the precipice of possibility, let us draw inspiration from our past achievements. The resilience that pulled us through dark times, the unity that mended the fabric of our society – these are the pillars upon which we must build our future. Our past, though scarred, is a testament to the strength that emerges from adversity. We must never forget the sacrifices made by those who came before us, nor the responsibility we bear to those who will follow.

The narrative of Rwanda is not one of victimhood, but of triumph over tragedy. We have emerged from the depths of despair, and now we must channel that same indomitable spirit towards our ongoing journey. The flame of hope that burns within each Rwandan heart must be fanned into a roaring fire that lights the way for generations to come.

As Amilcar Cabral once said, "always bear in mind that the people are not fighting for ideas, for the things in anyone's head. They are fighting to win material benefits, to live better and in peace, to see their lives go forward, to guarantee the future of their children.” The challenge we face is not just about survival; it is about thriving. Rwanda is not destined to merely exist; it is destined to succeed, to shine as a beacon of what is possible when a nation is united in purpose. The road ahead may be fraught with obstacles, but with fighters and builders at the helm, we shall overcome.

A lutta continua!
