RWANDA senior men’s football team, Amavubi, has dropped eleven slots, from 112th as of last month to 123rd in the latest FIFA Rankings released on Thursday in Zurich, Switzerland.

Despite not having a single international match since the dramatic departure of German-born head coach Antoine Hey in February, Rwanda heavily dropped because of her absence on international scene while other nations had plenty of international friendlies.

African teams bound for the 2018 FIFA World Cup marked notable improvements, with Tunisia achieving the country’s best ever FIFA ranking in the 14th place, from 23rd.

Senegal dropped by one spot into the 28th, Morocco remained 42nd, Egypt stand in 46th position while Super Eagles of Nigeria (47th) climbed into top fifty from 52nd of March rankings.

The reigning World Champions retained the top spot – despite a draw and defeat in March – five-time world champions Brazil also remained second while Red Devils of Belgium climbed on the podium following a thumping 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia last month. European champions Portugal complete top four.

Argentina came in fifth, France rank seventh, the 2010 World Champions Spain are eighth whereas England stood to 13th, up from 16th spot last month.

In the CECAFA region, where Rwanda is located, Uganda still leads, reigning regional champions Kenya are second while Vincent Mashami’s Amavubi come in third. Sudan (126th), Tanzania (137th), Ethiopia and Burundi jointly rank in the 145th place.

The next FIFA World Rankings will be released on May 17, exactly one month before the World Cup scheduled for June 14 – July 15 in Russia.
