Dear Editor,

Allow me to comment on the article that appeared in the The Sunday Times about Rwandan Diaspora students undergoing civic education training.

I must say this is a good initiative and I thank the government of Rwanda for such a development at a time most people in Africa are suffering from the temptation to go abroad hoping to get better jobs and improved standards of living yet most of them end up doing odd jobs.

Looking at the financial meltdown in the world today, it should be noticed that not even relocating to countries like the US will save the situation.

The solution is at home and unless we approach the problem from where it is, we will not be able to solve it. For many years, Africa has suffered from massive brain drain with professionals relocate to developed countries looking for greener pastures.

As a result, the continent has suffered from major development setbacks especially rooted in the lack of qualified human resources to deal with the continents problems.

It’s a pity that while our very own people try to escape the situation, there is a category of selfless and compassionate people who forego the comfort in their home countries which our people escape to, preferring to come to Africa and engage in humanitarian work.

Therefore such initiatives intended at making young persons love their own country are highly welcome especially if they have already lived outside the country and are already exposed to the lure of working abroad.

It is equally important to sensitise these students on the genocide ideology which is very prevalent in most European countries so that they can act as our ambassadors and apostles of the unity and reconciliation message.

As noted, some of them have managed to excel academically and have received recognition from these highly acclaimed European universities, which makes Rwanda proud.

Let this initiative to bring back our own children be highly considered. Thanks to the government of Rwanda.
