Newly elected president of the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), President Rtd Brig. General Jean-Damascène Sekamana has said that teamwork and building youth structures is the only way to improve the level of the sport in the country.

Sekamana was yesterday declared the winner after garnering 45 votes out of the 53 votes casted after his rival Louis Rurangirwa managed to get 7 votes with 1 invalid vote in the election that was held at Lemigo Hotel. He replaces Vincent ‘De Gaulle’ Nzamwita who resigned in January due to personal reasons.

The former SC Kiyovu president Sekamana will head the football body for the next four years and promised to work on bringing back a good relationship with stakeholders and to develop the sport, which is the most popular in the country.

He noted that, "We must work together as a group to improve the game. We need teamwork to reach our target. This way, we shall be able to take Rwandan football to a higher level.”

"We have many talents out there and it’s our responsibility to go back to our respective zones and work to ensure that we raise these kids, both boys and girls.” He explained.

The Ferwafa president is expected to work closely with Sport Scolaire Federation in staging youth tournaments with a view of selecting the best talented players.
