Babou (R) and George were among comedians that took part in the Comedy Night at The Junction, on Thursday. Eddie Nsabimana.

Despite artistes expected to perform failing to turn up, upcoming stand-up comedians made sure revellers were entertained with jokes and music from DJ Tyga, who proved his undisputed skills on the decks.

Hosted by fellow comedian Michael Sengazi, the show brought together a number of young comedians under the management of Comedy Knights, a platform dedicated to detecting and developing young comedy talents.

The platform is also commonly known for the previous Com Factory, a weekly comedy series which used to be screened on Rwanda Television.

Primus Guma Guma Superstar Season 8, whose road shows commence on May 26 in Gicumbi District, was theme of the night, with comedians cracking jokes on how the annual music show is organised, the scheming by artistes to be nominated and other aspects of the show.

The theme might change at every comedy show depending on trending issues in the society.

The funniest joke came around when Babou and George questioned the content of some songs whose choruses are full of repetitions.

In the jokes, they mentioned some songs like Meddy’s hits like Ni Njyewe, Akaramata, Amayobera and Got it (Featuring Safi), The Ben’s Ese Ni Byo, Nameles’ Nasinzia, and many other songs that have repetitions in their choruses.

Revellers waited for performances from different artistes who were scheduled to headline the comedy show but only MC Tino showed up.

Tino, a singer, comedian and radio presenter, talked of how he prayed for Guma Guma new face Uncle Austin until he featured among the top ten of the contest’s 8th edition.

Comedian Babou chipped in and said Tino’s prayers were more realistic than Bishop Rugagi’s prophecy to Miss Shanitah Munyana that she would be crowned Miss Rwanda 2018, only for her to lose out to Miss Liliane Iradukunda.

Uncle Austin, who was scheduled to perform, was reported to have fallen sick, while Jay C was nowhere to be seen. Gabiro Guitar arrived at the venue but did not perform for unknown reasons.

Jerome Migisha, the Manager of Comedy Knights, said he is grateful the platform is successfully detecting and producing new talents in the industry.

"We want to make this platform a talent detection hub for young comedians to join the current crop of comedians,”

"Our main target is to see the comedy industry become even bigger than the music industry and I believe with the number of young comedians identified from this platform, the future of the industry looks bright,” he said.

So far, over 30 young comedians have been under the apprenticeship of Comedy Knights and according to Migisha several of them includingDivin, Joshua aka Baby Face, Fred, Keffa, and female comedian Nakato are already establishing themselves and will soon make a difference in the industry.

"Divin, Joshua, Keffa and Fred are among the new talents discovered, who are showing exceptional talents under this platform. Nakato for example is such an amazing talent, who is going to be a great female comedian in the industry in the near future given her potential. We believe all of them have a bright future,” he added.

The show ended few minutes past 10 pm.
