CAN qualifier
September 2
Rwanda v Liberia

BY BONNIE MUGABE

Local football governing body, Ferwafa has confirmed that the Amavubi Stars will train for only two weeks in preparation for their final Nation’s Cup qualifier against Liberia on September 8 in Kigali.
The development was disclosed on Sunday by the federation Chief executive Officer who told Times Sport that Michael Nees’s team will start preparations on August 20.
"Two weeks are enough to have a strong squad, which can play well against Liberia,” Jules Kalisa noted, adding that, "We can not start preparations for the Liberia game earlier than August 20 because of the National Primus League, which we want to end on its stipulated time.”
Rwanda, with three points at the bottom of the Group V after four qualifying ties, will need a win in the last home game to win back the fans.
Rwanda lost the last qualifying game against Cameroon 2-1 in Doualla but this time the national football federation is optimistic that a win against Liberia at Amahoro stadium is a must.
As Rwanda hosts Liberia in Kigali, group leaders Cameroon travel to Malabo for their tie against Equatorial Guinea.
The three time champions of Africa have already qualified for next year’s final in Ghana after winning all their five qualifiers.
In a related development, Nees is expected to return back in the country early next week after spending the past weeks on holiday in Germany.
The national football federation is expected to shortlist the Amavubi Stars’ players for the Liberia game on August 18. Cameroon already qualified; lead the group with maximum points from five qualifiers, followed by Eq. Guinea with seven points, Liberia with four and Rwanda bottom of the table and no chance to qualifying have three points.
