Bottom side Gicumbi FC host title contenders APR FC in the last game of the Azam Rwanda Premier League first round on Wednesday at Gicumbi Stadium in Northern Province.

Looking ahead to the game in which odds will be against the hosts, head coach Godfrey Okoko, said; "We will go into the game to play for three points—we badly need points to move from our current position (bottom) and move up the table.”

A victory for Gicumbi will move them two places up into 14th place, with 14 points, same as Espoir FC in 13th position.

Okoko’s team have won just three and drawn two matches in 14 league outings, and they are the league lowest scoring team with just seven goals and have conceded 21.

Meanwhile, a win for fourth-placed APR will not change anything in terms of league standings for the army side since it will only bring them level on points with third-placed SC Kiyovu at 28 points but the latter enjoy a head-to-head advantage, having beaten APR 1-0 earlier in the campaign.

"It’s going to be a tough game but we have to be ready, stay focussed on the huge task at hand which is to stay in top division,” Burundian tactician, Okoko added.

After beating Sunrise FC 3-2 on Monday, defending champions Rayon Sports will finish the first round top of the table with 30 points, one ahead of AS Kigali.

After today’s game, the league will be called off as teams turn focus on the Peace Cup last sixteen and quarter-finals. The league will return in mid-April.
