Rwanda women beach volleyball team on Monday started residential camp at Bloom Hotel in Kimironko as they step up preparations for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games scheduled for April 4-15 in Queensland, Australia.

Rwanda were drawn in Group C alongside New Zealand, Vanuatu and Singapore. According to the head coach, Christopher Mudahinyuka, the team started training at Amahoro National Stadium and they will be training twice a day through Friday before departing for Australia on Saturday.

The team, compromised of Charlotte Nzayisenga and Denyse Mutatsimpundu, qualified in Word Cup after striking gold at the 2017 CAVB Beach Volleyball Cup in Maputo, Mozambique in May, 2017.

Ndayisenga and Mutatsimpundu also qualified for the World Championships staged in Vienna, Austria in August where they lost all their matches.

Nzayisenga, who plies her trade at champions Rwanda Revenue Authority, and Mutatsimpundu, of APR Volleyball Club, boast a good record having claimed the senior continental title after beating 2015 All African Games gold medalists Nigeria in the final of the 2018 Commonwealth Games qualifiers 2-0 in Sierra Leone last October.
